Tinnitus – What is it?
Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the head or the ears in the absence of external stimulus.Tinnitus is typically associated with a sensorineural hearing loss, but may result from several causes:
- Subjective tinnitus (can be heard only by patient):
- Tissue damage : Occurs in the inner ear, sensory cells may be damaged
- Muscular disorders: Interactions between somatosensory and the auditory system.
- Central disorders or due to neural plasticity.
- Objective Causes (Rare -can be heard by patient and doctor):
- Vascular disorders (pulsatile)
- Spontaneous otoacustic emissions

Clinical study planning
The clinical evaluation is planned in multiple tiers:- Initial study (12 patients) to provide data for CE-certification (ongoing)
- Larger effect study. The clinical study will be done in Sweden.
- Imaging Study 30 patients (Monaco) Brain and ear imaging centre to identify localisation of activity or contrast enhancing changes resulting from use (before and after) of the patch. Studies to be performed by 1.5T MRI contrast enhanced MRI scanning. Functional MRI to be considered. (Dr. Michael T.
